Kitesurf Accommodation To Rent

Accommodation to rent in the prime kitesurfing location of Famara

Quick Links: Famara Village | Playa Famara Beach

From as early as March to mid to late September the trade winds "Los Alisios" start to blow from the North East and the winter groundswells die off providing a variety of kiteboarding conditions ideal for beginners and kiteboarders looking to progress. For the rest of the year the island still has good wind statistics and there are plenty of waveriding conditions for more advanced riders. Playa Famara on the north west coast of the island is the best all round spot and is suitable for all levels including advanced wave riders. The 6km sandy beach overlooked by the "Los Riscos" cliffs the north end of the bay provides typically cross-onshore conditions, with a mellow shore break and flatter waters on the inside section. Out back more advanced riders will find a wide range of challenging wave riding conditions.

The picturesque fishing village and bay of Famara has recently become a favourite base for kitesurfers from all over the Europe and the rest of the world. Although growing in popularity the bay still remains relatively uncrowded especially compared to other legendary Spanish spots like Tarifa. Although Playa Famara beach is an ideal playground for all levels of kitesurfers we strongly recommend that beginners and intermediates take a kitesurf course which ensures you progress in a safe environment.

The urbanization of Playa Famara comprises of approx. 200 semi-circular bungalows located in the foothills of the 'Los Riscos' mountain range overlooking the bay of Famara. It is located in the middle of the bay within easy walking distance of the kitesurfing zone and the village. The urbanization has a bar/restaurant, a mini-supermarket shop. The sleepy fishing village of La Caleta de Famara is located at the south end of the bay and it dotted with traditional white-washed Canarian houses and apartments. The village offers a good selection of tapas bars and restaurants with something to suit all tastes and budgets including local tapas, freshly caught fish, pizzerias etc. There's also several mini-supermarkets and kitesurf shops for those essential supplies. Both locations are set in an unspoilt natural environment and will appeal to those who want to get off the beaten track and enjoy the Canarian pace of life.
