KRISTIN BOESE interview
How do you feel about doing this interview?
I don't feel anything... I just answer... :-).
What's your background?
I grew up in East Germany and was really locked up there...
But as soon as the wall broke down and I got free I started traveling around and also begun windsurfing. After I finished A level I was still responsible enough to complete a commercial education but finally I had enough and started working as a windsurf instructor and finally kiting...
How did you get into Kiteboarding?
I met a kitesurf teacher who wanted to show me how nice kiting is. He did!.

What are your aims and objectives?
To push the female kitesport and to do as good as I can!.
What do you think gives you the edge?
My ambition.
You organize and direct a free kitesurfing camp for women in Germany. Tell us about that?
What to tell...? It was great fun. I just invited all kite girls in Germany to participate at a girls camp. With lots of help of the Windsurf center Wustrow and Fa shower gel I could organize everything for free. The only thing the girls had to do was to show up. Goal was to kite without guys and to give each other motivation. It was a great atmosphere and a big success! I'll for sure organize another one next year!.

What do you think is responsible for the surge of interest in Kiteboardriding amongst women?
Board-sports are fun-sports, fun-sports mean fun, and who would not like to have fun?
Kite-surfing is easy to learn, you don't need to be very strong for doing it and it does not hurt. I think kite-surfing is just the perfect sport for girls! I am not sure about other board-sports though...
Which Kitesurfers and companies do you respect the most and why?
I respect every Kitesurfer, but the most I respect the 83 year old kitesurfing guy I met in Daenmark this summer...
And of course I respect all my sponsors most... JN for just launching a new kite brand and doing so great, Carved for building the best boards ever, Fa for pushing our sport from the outside, and Zembla and Maui Magic for designing the nicest clothes and equipment!
You have signed a deal with FA as a sponsor, does this take some of the
pressure off?
Oh yes, a lot! They make it possible for me to practise more, to travel from competition to competition and they even help me with media work. It's perfect and I am still stoked!
Your favorite kiteboarding spots and why?
I really like Fortaleza/Brasil because of it's 100% wind guarantee in the winter time. But I also love the unique Maui days where you have nice waves and constant wind.
What are the coolest places you've visited on tour and why?
Machu Pichu in Peru...I have never had such a feeling before... you got to go there and experience it!!!
Kitesurfing is a sport with risks, have you ever been in big trouble?
What happened??
I have neber been in really big trouble. Sometimes it happens that my handle pass leach gets tangled around my bar and my kite keeps looping and looping, I had some real nice wipe outs like this... but I think kiting is not that dangerous if you know what to do!.
What kind of gear do you and your friends use?
Well, we use Tube kites (I use JN Prima Donna kites from 7-16 m) and twin tip boards (I use Carved custom boards). Sometimes we take a Surfboard and a small kite to ride waves.
What sucks about being a female pro kiteboarder?
Nothing, I really like it.
What is the best thing about being a pro?
Everything, at this point, I still really like it. ;-).
Are you involved in any other sports?
Oh yes, I do a lot of Yoga, like Beach Volley, surfing, wake-boarding and snow-boarding a lot. I do as much other sports as I can fit into my schedule.

Many young women look up to you for doing what you do.
Do you have any heroes/role models?
Actually, I don't. Well, I look up to the top guys and would love to learn the tricks they do... but I am sure I will do them sooner or later and I need to do it myself...
What is the biggest surf/strongest winds you've been out in?
biggest surf: maui - 11 feet
strongest wind: lake neusiedl - 50 knots.
Best movie ever and what type of music are you into?
American History X, I like listening to Jack Johnson and dancing to latin music.
Favourite food?
Sushi.
